Artist Statement

Isabelle Taylor Bernstein

Art has always been the language I reach for first — before words, before explanation. My work spans drawing, painting, textile, costume, and sculpture, though I find that the most interesting pieces tend to live somewhere between categories.

I'm drawn to the physical and the tactile: the weight of charcoal on rough paper, the way a seam changes the shape of fabric, the surprise of a ceramic form emerging from the kiln. Each medium asks something different of me, and I've learned as much from what doesn't work as from what does.

This portfolio represents work made between 2022 and 2025 — pieces I'm proud of, pieces I'm still thinking about, and pieces that opened doors I didn't expect.
